Federico Arani’s multidisciplinary work spans sculpture, painting, sound and site-specific installations, as well as curating exhibitions and community-based projects.
Rooted in the study of beliefs-systems, archeology, proto-sciences and evolutionary biology, Federico shapes an ecosystem of hybrid fragments and transmuted presence - footprints of a decayed, speculated elsewhere that defies straightforward interpretations.
Salvaged materials, archaeological finds and parts of old equipment and machinery meld with archaic and alchemical human practices such as ceramic and electroplating in a continuous hybridization and mutual corruption, blurring the line between what is found and what is made, between function and speculation.
Thus, uncanny settings and unstable images come to life: impossible and abandoned needs for communication, connection, protection and discovery - as if he wanted to unearth lost knowledge, an adrift form of primeval language, in an attempt to process and understand collective traumas and human fears and desires.
Federico is also co-founder of the studio and artist-run space Porto Simpatica in Rome and founder and curator of Scoppio Project in Umbria, Italy.
