Federico Arani’s multidisciplinary practice includes sculpture, painting, and site-specific interventions, as well as curating exhibitions and community-based projects.

Influenced by the study of proto-sciences, the history of craftsmanship, evolutionary biology, and sci-fi literature, Federico shapes an ecosystem of hybrid tools and transmuted presences footprints of a decayed, post-societal elsewhere that gaze upon us from above, cautiously revealing itself, but never fully graspable.

Salvaged materials, archaeological finds, and parts of old equipment and machinery meld with archaic human practices such as ceramic and metalworking in a continuous hybridization and mutual corruption, blurring the line between what is found and what is made.

Thus, uncanny settings and unstable images come to life: impossible and abandoned desires for connection, protection, preservation, and discovery — as if he wanted to unearth lost knowledge, an adrift form of primaeval language, in an attempt to process and understand personal traumas and generational fears and anxieties.

Federico is also co-founder of the studio and artist-run space Porto Simpatica in Rome and founder and head curator of Scoppio Project in Umbria, Italy.
